Why does JVC want you to use their OEM camcorder batteries?

Why does JVC want you to use their OEM camcorder batteries? Other than making money?
I have heard that they use proprietary technology in their OEM batteries that separates them from the generics.
What is the technology and how does it work/affect performance?

the OEM battery allows the camcorder to tell you the remaining time left in the battery. it is no different than Sony info-lithium OEM batteries. If you are willing to give up knowing how much time the battery will run, then you can use the generics. i use JVC batteries in my camcorder.

I use a 12 hour battery from another manufacturer & it works fine & all the info a JVC battery gives you is still there on my screen.
